I got the new cd from Editors today (they've dropped the The from their name), made sure to get the deluxe edition so I got their covers of R.E.M., Talking Heads, and Stereolab too.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. They got Flood to produce it, which made me go "do what now?". I love Flood, he's produced some of my favourite bands, but he tends to have a penchant for the electronic.
Upon listening to the new cd, I was immediately attacked by synthesizers and electronic drum kits. I do love me some synths, but I was a little... I guess let down? Maybe? That Editors went in this direction. I could almost hear the first single, Papillon, in a club. I'm not saying it's bad, infact the cd has already reached 3 repeat plays. I just didn't expect it from Editors. I will add that the warmth of Tom Smiths vocals creates a nice juxtaposition to the cold electronics.

A customer hands me a bunch of change to pay for his coffee
Me: Whu-oh, you got a Canadian quarter in here. Do you have an american one I can trade you for?
Customer: What?! Oh! Yeah, stupid Canadians *looks at the coin* Wow, they are stupid, why do they have Susan B. Anthony on their coin? Isn't she supposed to be OUR myth?
Me: T...that's Queen Elisabeth.
Customer: What's the difference?
Me:...wow...

Penny Arcade 2009 came to a close today, and thank the various gods. I'm exhausted. I got to spend a lot of good times with Amber, Gregg, Dan, Josh, and Beth. As an added bonus, an old friend from Cleveland, Jon Vinson, was there too.
My room is trashed from all the free swag I got.
Over the course of the 3 days, I got to get my hands on, and play, various highly anticipated games such as:
Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Dantes Inferno
Mass Effect 2
Left 4 Dead 2
City Of Heroes: Going Rogue
There are way more, but those are the highlights.

Last night I got to meet, chat, and have a drink with (Well, I was drinking, he was telling us stories) Wil Wheaton.

Today was by far the best of the 3 days. Attendance was low, so we got to see lots of stuff that were too crowded the first two days.
Now, I'm totally gonna crash out and recharge my energy cells.
Tomorrow I get to sort through the piles of freebies I got.
Lots of pics to come on my facebook.

Mad Scientist signing out...

District 9 was so fraking good. I really can't even say anything that would do enough justice for this film, just go see it. Best sci-fi I've seen in a long, long time.

HORRIBLE
So, I closed tonight and I got to hear a lot of peoples comments about District 9.
Not a single person (and I probably talked to about 20 or 30 of them) had a bad thing to say about it.
I've not been this excited for a sci-fi movie in years. I'll let you guys know what I think about it tomorrow.

I read a few tidbits of information, and it did make the oscillation overthruster (that resides where my heart once was)skip a few cycles...
Item #1:
The current New Order boys (sans Peter "This Bass Line Is Sex" Hook) have teamed up with Blur's Alex James to form a band "Bad Lieutenant". Though I think the name is terrible, the cd is due out in Sept this year.

Item #2 (cut and pasted cause I'm lazy)
Florida independent record label, 24 Hour Service Station, has assembled a tribute album honoring the music of New Order entitled CEREMONY - A New Order Tribute. The double CD plus bonus disc and digital album are scheduled for release in the fall of 2009.

Participants include Rabbit In The Moon, Kate Havnevik, SUNBEARS!, Jah Division, The Cloud Room, DETACHMENTS, The Beauvilles, Kingsbury, The Penelopes, GD Luxxe, Pocket, XOXO, Kites with Lights, Dub Gabriel and many more!

Artists have donated a version of their favorite New Order track, as well as their take on “Ceremony” for the extra disc.

Proceeds from record sales will benefit the Salford Foundation Trust’s Tony Wilson Award, established in memory of Tony Wilson, the founding father of landmark independent record label Factory Records, who died of cancer in 2007. The trust will benefit children and young people who can demonstrate a special talent or ambition in the arts or creative skills.

Wow, the roommate just proves her lack of intelligence again and again.
Today, I left my cellphone at home.
I get home to find the following text messages from Monique

9:00am: Erin is being a bitch
9:04am: I've been here for 10 minutes and she's already driving me crazy
9:15am: Why can she be in a pissy mood and get away with it, but when I am, I get yelled at?
10:11am: We got the new inventory in, which of this is yours?
10:40am: Hello?
11:58am: I just went home for lunch. You left your cellphone at home. It's on the kitchen counter
2:30pm: Did you order a new cellphone belt clip, or was that the other Chris?
4:21pm: Seriously, you could answer at least one of my questions

Wow. I dunno what was funnier. The fact that she kept texting me AFTER she found out my phone was at home, or the fact that she texted me to tell me I left my phone at home.

What lessons would you think I would have learned after drinking vodka, playing warcraft, and watching sex and the city all night? Some poignant, sarcastic, and/or pithy remark about life and love? Nope. All I've gained out of this is:
1. Hitting things on the head with an axe that's bigger than your character never gets old
2. Miranda has a freakishly long neck

I bid you gute nacht
